POSITION SUMMARY
Switchboard uses mobile phones to create
nationwide networks of health workers in developing countries. We are a
San Francisco-based nonprofit, operating in Ghana, Liberia, and now,
Tanzania, where we are building the largest network of health workers in
the developing world.
We are seeking a back-end Python developer
to help build a mobile messaging suite for health workers in Tanzania,
and beyond. The messaging suite, built from existing open -source
software, will include a mobile registration system that allows us to
collect health worker contact information from any type of mobile phone.
The suite will also include a bulk text messaging platform that allows
the Ministry of Health to send critical alerts and collect data from
health workers in the network. The position will be on a consulting
basis, and you should have strong feelings about the power of technology
to improve the world in which we live.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Spearhead architectural decisions
• Discuss design, scalability, interoperability and other issues encountered with the team

Develop a mobile messaging suite, building off existing open-source
software, that allows us to register and communicate with health workers
nationwide
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS REQUIRED
• Strong Python knowledge
• Comfortable working in a Unix environment
• Postgres or a solid SQL background
• Excellent testing practices

uses mobile phones to create free nationwide calling networks of health
workers in developing countries. Everyone in the network, from clinical
officers in rural clinics to doctors in urban hospitals, can call or
text each other free of charge. We are working to improve patient care
by giving isolated rural health workers immediate access to information
from practitioners and organizations in urban areas. For more
