Also
known as avoiding. This is when a person does not peruse his or her concerns or
those of the opponents. He/she does not address the conflict, sidesteps,
postpones or simply withdraws.
When it may be appropriate
- When the issue is trivial and not worth the effort ( trivial means something of small important)
- When more important issues are pressing an you don’t have time to deal with them
- In a time when postponing the responses is beneficial to you. For example,
i.
When it is not the right time or place to confront the issue
ii.
When you need time to think and collect information before
you act
- When you see no chance of getting your concerns met.
- When you would have to deal with hostility
- When you are unable to handle the conflict.
Possible advantages
- Withdrawing is less stress approach when the conflict is short
- Gives ability/time to focus on more important urgent issues instead
- Gives you a time to better prepare and collect information before you act.
Disadvantages
- May lead to weakening or loosing your position
- When multiple parties are involved, withdrawing may negatively affect your relationship with the part that expect your action
